In the 60’s New York was a hotbed of Latin culture. With the rising movement for Puerto Rican independence and civil rights, black and Latin musicians regularly turned to music to voice their feelings. The soundtrack to their struggle was deeply soulful and laid the foundations for many of the genres that are popular in Latin America today.
