Glasgow Keelie: 1820 commemoration
The Tree of Liberty is thriving!
The oak tree was planted on the 200th anniversary of the death of James 'Purlie' Wilson, on the banks of the Clyde, close to where he was executed for his part in the 1820 Rebellion.
This year the Glasgow Keelie and friends invite you to join us at Glasgow Green, opposite the High Court, for a short commemoration on Sunday 30th August at 12 noon sharp.
Afterwards we will be walking to the annual Calton Weavers commemoration at 1pm. Another tree will be planted there - a witch hazel - to honour Elspeth King, author of 'The Strike of Glasgow Weavers 1787'.
Join us for a day of celebrating Glasgow's rich radical history.
