Listening Back! presents: Stimprovisation Workshop w/ Dr Aby Watson
As part of Listening Back!, GACO is excited to welcome Dr Aby Watson for a playful workshop exploring voice, sensory experience and collective improvisation.
Stimprovisation is stimming improvisation: an embodied creative practice of sensory-seeking and instant composition. Discovered and coined during Aby's doctoral research, and developed as a somatic practice for neurodivergent people, stimprovisation explores non-neuronormative ways of making and experiencing through movement, voice, objects, rhythm, repetition, ritual and togetherness. For Listening Back!, Aby will focus on Sensinging - a playful, self-sensing use of voice. Vocal resonance and non-linguistic expression as ways of soothing, stimulating and regulating will be explored, both individually and collectively.
No performance or musical experience is needed - only a willingness to play, explore and listen to your bodymind. Come wearing clothes suitable for movement and embodied play.
Dr Aby Watson (she/they) is a neuroqueer artist, choreographer, performer and academic based in Glasgow. Her polymorphic practice moves across contemporary performance and knowledge exchange, with a focus on radical neurodiversity and particular interests in stimming, sensuality and consciousness.
Through movement, voice and objects, Aby explores non-neuronormative potentials through rhythm, repetition, ritual and togetherness. Her work has been presented nationally and internationally, including at Southbank Centre, Sophiensaele, Tramway, Buzzcut and Dance International Glasgow.
