Audience Press presents: You will get a very good audience here

The evening will feature readings from Ben Ellul-Knight alongside artist Rebecca Wilcox and the dance artist and writer Misa Brzezicki.

The launch of You will get a very good audience here, a collection of dance writings by Ben Ellul-Knight. Each piece responds to a solo performance staged in Glasgow by local and international artists between 1977 and 2024. Holding the collection together is the insistence that a solo is never a solo; rather, it is a web of shared energies, shifting atmospheres and intricate social-somatic resonances. Each piece grapples with these energies on the page to produce a haphazard archive of embodied audience responses.

"Witnessing solo bodies in movement, Ben Ellul-Knight re-frames the observer as collaborator. Dance is here figured as acts of self formation, sociality, memory, and attention. In attending to the performance, we recognise our pulse, breath, and digestion, as well as the frames of view: the fuzz of archived video, the makeshift mirror of the oven door. A vibrant record of dance and a paean to everyday ‘be-songed’ perception." -- Lila Matsumoto

Ben Ellul-Knight is a performer working with off-key sung-speech, objects and movement, usually in collaboration with others. He plays in the improvising quartet Rotter Otter, makes radiophonic sound poetry with Marvo Men and slippery electronic pop with Katz Mulk. As part of these different guises he has produced a commissioned performance for Radiophrenia (2018), performed at Counterflows Festival (2019), and released music on Cafe OTO’s in-house label Takuroku (2021) and Futura Resistenza (2026). As part of Psykick Dancehall, he produced publications, releases and events in collaboration with artists, musicians, writers and organisations. Audience Press is a new collaboration between Ellul-Knight and Hannah Ellul.

Rebecca Wilcox is an artist working primarily with text and audio, often collaboratively. She is interested in the experience and articulation of apperception and what shapes this socially, paying attention to everyday speech, dissonance and compositions/reproductions on the page. Recent projects include writing for a short film made with Richard Whitby, performances with the group Rotter Otter, audio pieces for Radiophrenia Festival and performances with Hannah Ellul for BBC Tectonics Festival and Takuroku (cafe Oto, London). She also works for the organisation Art in Hospital.

Misa Brzezicki Is a dance artist and writer based in Glasgow, thinking about dancing as reading, and the ways in which bodies encounter, keep company and share knowledge.

Audience Press is a new, artist-led imprint dedicated to work about sonic experience and listening, informed by exploratory and expansive approaches to publishing.
